Bill Elliott finally reached the pinnacle of NASCAR racing when he captured the 1988 Winston Cup Championship in the #9 Coors Ford owned by Harry Melling.  With his brother Ernie Elliott as his crew chief, Bill recorded six wins, 15 top-5 finishes and 22 top-10 finishes in outdistancing runner-up Rusty Wallace by 24 points.
